How to Install a Truck Bed Cover

Have you decided you want a bed cover for your pickup, like a lot of Logan drivers? Then you’ll want to read the instructions below on how to install a truck bed for a cover. We also talk about how to measure a truck bed for a cover.

How to Measure Truck Bed for a Cover

If you want your truck to look as great as those other pickups with covers you’ve seen rolling around American Fork, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting the right size cover for your bed. Follow these instructions on how to measure a truck bed for a cover:

  1. Use a tape measure to measure the bed from the inside edge of the bed that is against the cab to the inside wall of the tailgate.
  2. Make note of the measurement in feet and inches.
  3. Choose a cover that is labeled within an inch or two of your measurement. Most manufactures will round to the nearest inch or foot. So, don’t be concerned if it’s an inch or two off.

How to Install a Truck Bed Cover

Many of our Hillsboro customers have been able to install their truck bed covers themselves. Just follow these simple instructions on how to install a truck bed cover:

  1. Wash and clean your truck bed.
  2. Open the tailgate to make room for installation.
  3. Clamp the side rails on to the side walls of the bed. Clamps should be provided. Do not tighten clamps all the way.
  4. Make sure there are no gaps between the bottom of the side rail and the truck. If there are gaps, fill them with shims (plastic or rubber spacers).
  5. Adjust rails until centered and flat.
  6. Tighten all clamps completely.
  7. Wipe down the area between the rails and the cab with rubbing alcohol, then install rubber seals in this area, if provided.
  8. Install other components, like storage straps and tension adjuster screws.
  9. If the cover is a hinged cover, install the rod and hinge.
  10. Close the tailgate.
  11. Unroll, unfold, or place the cover over the bed. Place it on the rails and bolt or snap into place.
  12. Tighten the clamps a final time.
  13. Install the drainage tube, if provided.
